  9. A recent visit by a GTE line technician confirmed my paranoid
  10. fears: the reason my Internet PPP connection goes down a few
  11. times a day, the reason my FAX goes dead from time to time, and
  12. the reason my voice lines go nuts from time to time is the
  13. presence of line multiplexers on my phone lines.
  14.  
  15. If you are reading this posting and don't know what these 
  16. potholes on the Information Superhighway are, you really don't
  17. want to know.  These devices allow the phone company to charge
  18. for several lines without having to lay the required amount of
  19. copper pairs.
  20.  
  21. Unfortunately these line multiplexers often interfere with
  22. high speed modems.  Sometimes they even wipe out basic
  23. POTS functions such as Touch-Tone dialing and voice conversations.
  24.  
  25. So I raise the question: Is there a reliable, high quality
  26. line multiplexer that does not bollix v.34 modems and does
  27. not intermittently fade out to static?
